Acne - the ultimate enermy


Sorry I have been away for a little while, so I haven't come up here to update you all and answer questions.
Well, in speaking to some of my girlfriends who read my blog, I realized we really need to have an acne post. So... here it is!
First, let's set something straight:Everyone gets annoying acne 烦人的痘痘.., don't believe if anyone ever tells you that she/ he never gets it. Some of us might have better way treating it than others. That's all. So, anyone can be acne free. You just have to be dispine on your daily skin routine, diet and life style. Now, let's talk acne.

The super short answer is: the white or black head on our skin that stuck in our pore and create uneven skin.

How do we get rid of acne when it comes?

1. Don't pop it 不要挤: I know it's impossible, because I can't help popping it myself too when it's "matured" -- yea you know what I mean. If you have to pop it, make sure your hands are clean and you have very strong pimple gel or cream with you to seal it up right away (如果忍不住挤了要快快上痘痘膏)

2. Here are some recommendation on ACNE creams: (产品介绍)
My favorite: Nelsons Acne Gel, you can get it in Whole Foods too. It was introduced by a close friend from college. It really has amazing effect to close up acne pore and reduce scar after healing. I recommend to use it before going to bed. You can see a visible result the next morning.

2nd place winner: Acne spot healing gel by clinique. I used many versions of this product since middle school (yes... I started getting acne in middle school.........) My mother likes the version in 1999 - 2001. It was really effective. The next version in 2001-2004 wasn't exactly doing the job. So, we stopped using it. But this latest version came out last year or 2 years ago is actually much better.

If you are into prevention, you can get the tea tree oil and drop some into your toner. Or you can get the tea tree toner. Then, spray toner over your face every time after you wash your face. leave it to dry on its own (Do not wipe it) until everything is absorbed. This daily process can help prevent break-out. In the past, I also recommended a tea tree face wash from Body shop (they also have it in foam) This face wash can also prevent break-out. It's a good summer face wash.

3. Drink water - yeah everyone knows that, but please raise your hands if you really drink 2L of water a day. See.... who's hands are up?? Water is so important to treat acne. Many people I know who suffer acne problems do not like drinking water. Most of them are soda or coffee drinkers. You want nice and clean skin, drink water!! For the advanced class, you can put lemon in your water and drink lemon water. It's even better for your skin and PH balance in your body.
4. Eat "healing" food. I found an article online that tells us what to eat to get acne free skin. (去痘痘饮食篇)
In short, we need Protein, Vitamin A, C and D, Zinc, and Omega 3,6,9 in our diet to build beautiful skin. Here is a quick list of food that can give you these nutrition:
  • Protein source: Oatmeal, multi-grain bread, eggs, skim or 1% milk, lean read meat, chicken, fish (salmon), walnut, sunflower seeds, and flaxseed
  • Antioxidant: green tea
  • Fruits: Apricots, avocado, cherries, guava, grapefruit, oranges, cantaloupe, melons, mango, plantain, pomegranate, watermelon
  • Raw vegetables: carrots, croccoli, squash, spinach, pumpkin, tomato, peas, sweet potato and yam.
5. Lastly, healthy life style. 健康的身心是美丽的来源。 You need to eat, drink and SLEEP. You need to get your beauty sleep to get clean skin. Reduce stress and relax. Slow down a bit to take care of yourself. Get a life, find yourself a bf or gf. have healthy sex life.... YES I said it. Sex life is also important for glowing skin. If you are in the window period, it's perfectly ok. By no means, I am promoting sex and the city life style. But, my point is, put focus on yourself and take care of yourself. Allow enough time each day to make sure you eat well, sleep well and have time to follow through your skin care routine.
